Alfons Borrell (Sabadell 1931) is one of the greatest exponents of lyrical abstraction in Catalonia and is the creator of an extensive work of great expressive capacity, personal and emotional.
From the 50s, he became involved in the artistic renewal in Sabadell (Barcelona). He actively collaborated in the issue of Riutort review, and he is constituted as a precursor of gestural painting in Catalonia. From the 60s, he explores the Informalism movement and participates with the Gallot Group and the “public action painting”. In ‘76 he participated in the exhibition Pintura Y at the Fundació Miró. Throughout his evolution, Borrell has made a work that has always maintained the tension between shape and colour. Borrell creative experience enters a formal game that becomes deep expression of human existence. His contact with the poet Joan Brossa allowed him to be included in the exhibition Cordura y locura. 11 Artistas catalanes (Sanity and Madness. 11 Catalan Artists) at the Centre Georges Pompidou. He has collaborated with various artists and composers, including Perejaume and Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny with Tràfic boreal (Boreal traffic) project.
